Pacific Islands Youth for Christ

On July 30-Aug 3, 2008, the Guam Marriott Hotel was the venue for the first PYC. Inspired by the GYC in the United States, this was an experiment for the Islands’ youth. The experiment was: to not cater to the modern trends of the youth in today’s society, to not diagnose and discuss the problems of the youth like drugs and alcohol and how to fix these problems, and to not entertain the youth like a sports camp or a dance hall. Instead, they were fed the Bible from the likes of Peter Gregory, Pr Mark Farrell, Pr Seth Farrell, Pr Ravia, Pr Mafnas, Dr Supit, Dr Robinson. Instead, they were fed the testimonies of Uncle Jesse Laguana, Uncle Willy Flores, Mike Woods, Pr Duenas, and Peter Gregory. Instead, they were fed seminars on music, art, and “finding a mate” from Pr Riano and Dmitry Lossev. The purpose of this experiment: to give the participants a fertile soil to entrench deep roots into their relationship with Jesus.

In Ezekiel 37, just the Word of God was all it took for the Lord to revive the valley of dry bones into a living, breathing, standing army described as “exceeding” and “great”. After the Sabbath service hosted by ManAguaiya church at Guam Adventist Academy, this great, exceeding army of youth marched through Yona for a door-to-door health screening for adults and Bible story telling for children and obtained over a hundred contacts in a matter of a couple of hours. For the last evening session, a stirring testimony by Peter Gregory had numerous souls standing to give their lives to Jesus for the first time and make the decision for baptism.

PYC 2008 had 173 registrants mostly from Guam, but also flying in from Chuuk, Palau, Pohnpei, Saipan, Majuro, Marshall, Japan, and the United States. From a servant’s humbling perspective, the Lord’s handiwork was apparent in creating this event; the support was tremendous from pastors, parents, and youth; and He truly blessed each soul that attended. http://www.pycweb.com
